Why Michael Douglas Was Excited To Work With Michelle Pfeiffer On Ant-Man And The Wasp

There's no shortage of outstanding Hollywood talent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Ant-Man and The Wasp very much continues that tradition. The film brings Michael Douglas back as Hank Pym, but in addition to the Ant-Man alum, it also introduces Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne and Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster. CinemaBlend's own Eric Eisenberg recently got a chance to sit down with Douglas and talk about working with these actors, and the Romancing the Stone star explained that he was particularly excited about working with Pfeiffer and the Marvel de-aging technology. Douglas said:

I was so excited when I heard about it, and then of course to hear the fact that, 'Oh by the way, you'll both be like 30 years younger.' I thought, 'Oh, Michelle Pfeiffer 30 years younger, too. She looks great now!' I said, 'My goodness.' So, that was a treat. Larry Fishburne's another actor who I've really admired and never thought I'd get a chance to work with. That's one of the joys of these pictures, is that you're always surprised with the new talent that they bring in.

Who wouldn't want to work with Michelle Pfeiffer? Clearly, Michael Douglas was already very excited about the prospect of getting a chance to work with Pfeiffer finally -- despite both being icons of the 1980s, they never collaborated during their lengthy careers. That said, things got even more exciting when he learned that Marvel would apply its de-aging techniques to the actress -- seemingly confirming flashback sequences involving a younger Janet van Dyne in the movie.

In addition to the fun of working with Michelle Pfeiffer, Douglas did also note the joy of getting a chance to star alongside The Matrix's Laurence Fishburne. The two had never worked together before entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and as Douglas laid out for us, one of the critical benefits of a landscape like the MCU is that the behemoth studio can bring in some pretty strong talent to fill out its ranks.

Ant-Man and The Wasp picks up two years after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Coming to the tail end of house arrest after striking a plea bargain to keep himself out of The Raft prison, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) finds himself recruited to once again work alongside Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) when it becomes apparent that Hope's mother might still be alive in the Quantum Realm.
