Peter Dinklage Set to Star in Sony’s Rumpelstiltskin
Peter Dinklage is setting up to star as another fantasy-based character now that Game of Thrones is winding down, this time for Sony.
According to Variety, Dinklage is attaching himself to an adaptation of the fable Rumpelstiltskin. He will produce as well, along with David Ginsberg through Estuary Films.
The project is still in development and will likely not be the actor’s next major film. But, he and Sony are said to be making it a high priority.
Patrick Ness, writer of A Monster Calls, was hired to pen the script with Karen Rosenfelt. Also producing are Circle of Confusion’s Matt Smith and David Alpert, and Josh Weinstock.
Not much is known about the project beyond who is involved at this stage. Where and when the story will take place is yet to be determined.

Rumpelstiltskin was initially a Grimms’ Fairy Tale about a young miller’s daughter who made a Faustian bargain with an imp. A lie by her father leads to her capture and conscription by the king who demands she spin straw into gold before morning. Since there is no way she really can, she is desperate until Rumpelstiltskin appears and does it for her.
Usually there is a cost for Rumpelstiltskin’s aid. Sometimes it’s a necklace but he always comes back later. Most versions have him returning years in the future asking for the woman’s newborn child unless she guesses his name.
The story has been told and retold numerous times, each with the occasional twist or quirk. In one retelling, Rumpelstiltskin rides around on a big flying wooden spoon.
Robert Carlyle most recently portrayed Rumpelstiltskin on ABC’s Once Upon a Time and a forgotten low-budget, one-off horror movie centering around the character was made in 1995.
Peter Dinklage appeared in Avengers: Infinity War as Eitrie, the dwarf who forged Thor’s hammers, and in the Oscar winning Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
