Joker: Map of Gotham City Unveils Hidden Batman Easter Eggs
Continuing the onslaught of set videos and photos making their way online from director Todd Phillips’ Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix as the titular madman is a map of Gotham City.
The reveal of a movie map on its own normally wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but upon a closer inspection, this map holds many Easter eggs and hidden references to the larger Batman mythos.

The second image zooms in to give a much better look at some of the street names and districts found within Gotham City. For example, the “Snyder” district could either be in reference to Batman writer Scott Snyder, or a nod to Zack Snyder, who pitted the Dark Knight against the Man of Steel in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Other names worth calling out are Prince Street (for the deceased recording artist who provided the soundtrack to the 1989 Batman film), Wayne Avenue (possibly named after Batman’s alter ego, Bruce Wayne and the prestigious Wayne Family of Gotham), Jack Street (for Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of Jack Napier in Batman, the original name of The Joker), Berger Street (Karen Berger, who was a driving influence on the creation of DC’s Vertigo imprint), and Kane County (named after the Kane Family, for which Bruce’s mother, Martha, was a member of before marrying Thomas Wayne), just to name a few.

It is unknown who uncovered the map and how pictures were taken, but it’s possible the map could play an important role in the Warner Bros. film. Fans are eager to see the final result of Phillips’ vision and Phoenix’s performance, but for now, they will have to settle for these sprinkle of breadcrumbs to hold them over until an official trailer is released.
Directed and co-written by Todd Phillips, Jokerstars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character along with Robert De Niro, Marc Maron, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, and Bill Camp. It is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2019.
