Zack Snyder Confirms Batman’s Original Fate in the DCEU

Justice League director Zack Snyder has revealed that he originally intended to kill Batman in the DC Extended Universe.

Ramesh De Silva posted an image on Twitter and Vero of Superman holding Batman’s body in a similar fashion to Grant Morrison’s Final Crisis. De Silva captioned the image, “What we may have seen in the 5 story arc…” Snyder responded to the image saying, “Of course,” indicating that Batman would have indeed died in the DC Extended Universe.

Snyder, who had a five-movie arc planned for the DCEU, stepped away from Justice League following the tragic suicide of his daughter. Avengers director Joss Whedon took over production. Following the release and lukewarm reception to the long-anticipated team-up film, fans have called on Warner Bros. to release a “Snyder Cut” of the film, though the studio says it has no such plans. There’s some indication that Darkseid would have appeared in Justice League and been a major focus in Justice League 2.

The next film in the DC Extended Universe is James Wan’s Aquaman, which stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, and Dolph Lundgren as Nereus. The film opens Dec. 21.
