Wesley Snipes Is Actively Developing TWO Ideas for Blade 4

Wesley Snipes has teased fans that he could soon return as Blade thanks to discussions with Marvel Studios about a potential Blade 4.

Snipes took the lead as Blade in Stephen Norrington’s 1998 vampire movie and would reprise his role for Guillermo del Toro’s Blade II and David S. Goyer’s Blade: Trinity in 2002 and 2004, respectively. While Blade is a forgotten forefather when it comes to Hollywood’s current obsession with superhero movies, the industry could be ready to revisit the world of the human-vampire hybrid.

Speaking with VICE to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Blade, Snipes confirmed he is currently working on a way to continue the franchise. “There are a lot of conversations going around right now and we’re very blessed to have the enthusiasm and interest in something coming from that world again,” he said.

While Snipes remained tight-lipped on what the ideas are, he assured fans, “We’ve created two projects that fit perfectly into this world and, when people see them, I think they’re only going to have a problem with deciding which one they love the most.”

It may be hard to imagine the dark world of vampires in the usually family-friendly world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Snipes himself teased that something big is on the cards.

“All the main execs [at Marvel] and my team, we’ve been discussing for the past two years,” said Snipes. “Everyone’s enthusiastic about it, everybody gets it. But they got a business to run and they gotta square the things that they gotta figure out before they can get to it, I guess.”

Although the rights to Blade reverted back to Marvel from New Line in 2012, the character is yet to appear in any of the studio’s live-action movies or TV shows. Snipes promised that while Marvel decides what to do next, he will continue working on his mysterious — and apparently darker — vision for Blade’s future.

“In the meantime, we got a business to run and our own slate of things to do so,” said Snipes. “But the next time you see something in [the Blade universe], mark my words: What we did before is child’s play compared to what we can do now.”

Considering Blade: Trinity‘s lukewarm reception and the character’s 12 years in limbo since Goyer’s Blade: The Series, fans have been patiently waiting to see what Marvel does with the dhampir next. An R-rated Blade movie or the character’s appearance alongside the likes of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man might be unlikely, but Marvel could be working on a gritty Blade TV series.

Bearing in mind that Kate Beckinsale sparked rumors of a Blade/Underworld crossover back in 2016, there are plenty of avenues to explore if Snipes plans on putting on that leather coat and a pair of fangs for another round in his iconic role.
