Tom Holland Officially Debuts His New Spider-Man Costume

Tom Holland has officially revealed what appears to be his main costume in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the sequel to 2017’s Marvel/Sony cinematic collaboration, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

It all took place on the October 18 edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live. During the host’s opening monologue, the head of his security detail, Guillermo (Rodriguez), ran out wearing what appeared to be a movie-accurate Spider-Man mask, while inexplicably shouting “pew pew” rather than the trademark “thwip” noises most commonly associated with Spidey’s web-shooters.

Guillermo was followed in short order by another individual, dressed in the rest of the new suit from Far From Home, thus making its official debut outside of leaked on-set photos. The New York City traffic cone on his head, which has not not been confirmed to appear in the film, was removed to reveal Tom Holland, in character as Spider-Man.

When Kimmel pressed Holland’s Spider-Man about how Guillermo could possibly sneak up on the hero to steal his mask, citing his spider sense, he revealed that the lovably buffoonish guard was “not really all that threatening” and wouldn’t trigger the power. This, of course, confirms the long-debated fan theory that Guillermo is actually Venom.

Kimmel also asked whether the new Spider-Man movie would be a prequel, noting that the character was turned to dust at the end of Infinity War as a result of Thanos’ universe-halving snap. Feigning a superhero emergency — Thanos robbing a bank — Holland’s Spidey made a speedy exit, making one of his now trademark flips on his way out.

Holland, of course, is infamous for his tendency to — accidentally or otherwise — leak unreleased elements about his films and those within the wider MCU, as he did with the title of the Spider-Man sequel and certain elements of Infinity War.

Spider-Man: Far From Home, starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jake Gyllenhaal, Marisa Tomei, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton, is scheduled for release on July 5, 2019.
