David Morrissey has a new show that should be a really good omen for his career. The Walking Dead actor has been cast in Amazon and BBC's upcoming comedy Good Omens. The six-part fantasy series is an adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's novel, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. So who is Morrissey playing? "Good" question!
To better ascertain who David Morrissey will be playing you may want to know the context. Good Omens is set in a fantastical version of 2018 as the Apocalypse and Final Judgment are on the verge of bearing down on humankind. With the armies of Good and Evil preparing, an angel and a demon that have been enjoying life on Earth since it began seek to maintain it as it is.
David Morrissey will portray Captain Vincent, who is the captain of the Morbilli, according to TV Line. In a crucial Morrissey-character-related hint, Atlantis will be rising in Good Omens. Per Good Omens' director Douglas Mackinnon's tweet, the character will "encounter Atlantis." That sounds exciting! The super-talented Morrissey joins a cast that already includes Masters of Sex's Michael Sheen and Doctor Who's David Tennant in the lead roles. In a fun twist, Morrissey and Tennant previously shared the screen in a Doctor Who special back in 2008.
Michael Sheen will take on the angel Aziraphale and David Tennant tackle the role of the demon Crowley. Also along for the ride is Mad Men's Jon Hamm, among others. Since leaving The Walking Dead as the show's villain The Governor, David Morrissey has remained busy. While he has expressed interest in playing The Governor again, he has been taking on many new roles.
David Morrissey recently starred in the Amazon-BBC series Britannia. Largely known for his performances in dramas, it will be fun to see him taking on a role in a comedic environment. Like his co-stars, Morrissey has an impressive range that makes that believable. A number of David Morrissey's projects are actually available on Amazon, so it's only fitting that this comedy will be available on the streamer as well.
Along with Britannia, David Morrisey's season of The Missing is also available to stream there. If you want to watch David Morrissey on Amazon Prime in another series while you wait for Good Omens to premiere, you can check him out in the fabulous miniseries adaptation of Sense and Sensibility.
