The Boomsday Project Is The Next Hearthstone Expansion
7 minutes ago
Blizzard is gearing up to launch the next expansion for Hearthstone and this one is going to be explosive. It's called "The Boomsday Project," and it's full of as many scientific mishaps as you can possibly cram into 135 brand-spanking-new cards. If you're more of the visual learning sort, the development team has even put together a 10-minute breakdown that will make you feel like you've been teleported back to eighth grade science class.
Okay, so, yes, the jokes are a bit cheesy and all, but there's actually a lot of good information in there about some of the new mechanics coming to Hearthstone in the Boomsday expansion. The "Magnetic" ability, for instance, allows you to bolt one card onto another card for a boost of power. In the video, a Spider Bomb is used as an example. Played alone, the Spider Bomb is a three-cost minion with two attack and two life. Since it has the Magnetic ability, though, you can instead attach the card to another mech to give that card an attack and life boost, as well as the added bonus of "Deathrattle," an ability that will let that mech destroy a random enemy minion when it is destroyed.
We love the extra wrinkles new abilities like this throw into the game, so we're looking forward to seeing what additional tricks players will be able to unleash once Boomsday launches in Hearthstone. Speaking of which, you won't have to wait very long to start digging in. The latest expansion is set to go live on Aug. 7, with a couple of purchase options available for players new and old. If you want to learn more about the cards before plopping down your hard-earned cash, though, a card reveal livestream will be hosted on the Hearthstone Twitch channel at 10 a.m. PT on July 23. The development team will be running through a bunch of the new cards during that time, showing off the new mechanics and maybe even giving players creative ways of combining the new set with previous deck staples.
As for the big launch, a 50-pack bundle will be available for pre-order through the official website or within Hearthstone itself. Pre-ordering the expansion will get you a nice discount on all of those packs of cards, as well as a random Golden Legendary card from the Boomsday expansion and a Mecha-Jaraxxus card. A Mega Bundle is also available, which includes everything from the standard bundle, plus 30 more packs of cards and a Mech-Jaraxxus Hero card.
Even if you don't want to spend any money right off of the bat, anyone who logs into Hearthstone following the launch of the new expansion will receive three card packs free of charge and a random Class legendary minion from the new set.
