That Time Rami Malek And Bradley Cooper Had A Moment During The Oscars 2019 Class Photo
7 minutes ago
It's Oscars 2019 weekend, and most of the people in the video below are going to lose. They won't lose as hard as The Rest Of Us for not even being nominated, and it probably won't sting as bad as the recent Razzies winners/losers. But still. The Best Actor Oscar looks like it's leaning toward Rami Malek for Bohemian Rhapsody, but Sunday's big show will give the answer. Bradley Cooper will also be on hand for A Star Is Born. The two Best Actor nominees shared a little moment during the Oscars class photo luncheon earlier this month.
You can hear the voice of Academy board member Laura Dern as this video-taker pans the class. Toward the end, around the :31 mark, you see Bradley Cooper lean back during the applause to have a word with Rami Malek:
What did Bradley Cooper say to Rami Malek in that moment? Oh to be a fly on the wall in that back row. They really ducked their heads down to hear each other over the applause. Maybe ... "Congrats, I think this is your year to win, Rami"? "Man, I hope they don't give it to Christian Bale"? "I feel so awkward standing up here"? "We should sing together sometime"? "I wish they had put us next to each other"? "Let's talk to Kevin Feige after this is over and pitch a Marvel movie together"?
Every year the Oscar nominees do a "class photo" and this one was held Monday, February 4 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. As the camera pans, you can see all of the famous and less-than-famous names nominated this year.
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is there in the hat, standing to Lady Gaga's left, repping for Best Picture nominee Black Panther. Laura Dern introduced the man between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper as Best Documentary Feature nominee RaMell Ross. The woman between Cooper and Rami Malek was introduced as Makeup and Hairstyling nominee Pamela Goldammer.
If you're really into it, you can watch the entire 91st Oscar Nominees Luncheon and Class Photo video:
The Best Actor race this year feels like it's already settled for Rami Malek, who previously won Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award, and BAFTA awards for playing Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. But we shall see; here is the competition in that Best Actor category:
Christian Bale – Vice as Dick Cheney
Bradley Cooper – A Star Is Born as Jackson "Jack" Maine
Willem Dafoe – At Eternity's Gate as Vincent van Gogh
Rami Malek – Bohemian Rhapsody as Freddie Mercury
Viggo Mortensen – Green Book as Frank "Tony Lip" Vallelonga
The 2019 Oscars -- including a performance from Queen -- airs Sunday, February 24 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
