Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Debuts a Very Different Scorpion
Venom and Spider-Man: Far From Home aren’t the only Spider-Man-related films coming to theaters in the coming year. In fact, come the holiday season, fans will get a chance to travel the Spider-Man multiverse with the theatrical release of Sony’s animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
While we know that the film is set to star Miles Morales as he comes under the tutorship of Peter Parker, there is actually a lot from the film that is being kept secret. Yes, we know that multiple Spider-Verse characters will factor into the film, such as Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Ham and Peni Parker and her SP//dr robot suit — but how these characters from alternate universes will come to share the screen remains a mystery.
Similarly, we know that classic Spider-man villains the Kingpin, the Prowler and the Green Goblin will all have a presence in the film. And now, we can add another name to that growing list: Mac Gargan’s Scorpion.

Earlier today, popular toy manufacturer Funko unveiled its massive line of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse figures, offering new looks at many of the characters from the film in collectible form. But what was perhaps most surprising was the presence of the villainous Scorpion, a character who, before today, was never mentioned to appear in the film.
Scorpion can be spotted as one of the many characters that fans can collect in the Mystery Mini line of Into the Spider-Verse collectibles. The character’s design is a great departure from how he is usually depicted in the comic books and other animated fares. Here, instead of the usual exo-suit that the character is usually seen wearing, the Scorpion appears to be wearing actual robotic limbs meant to look like a scorpion. It features motorized scorpion legs, a tail and what appears to be at least one mechanical clawed arm.
It looks like this universe’s take on Mac Gargan was the victim of a terrible accident that left him in need of robotic limbs. What’s more, the character is sporting many facial tattoos and glowing eyes to complete his look, making him look like a frightening new addition to the increasing roster of villainous characters in the animated film.
