Silver & Black Director to Helm Rucka & Fernandez’s Old Guard
Director Gina Prince-Bythewood is adding another comic book film adaptation to her ever-growing resume as director of The Old Guard, based on the Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández series.
The film is based on the comic series of the same name, with Rucka on board to pen the adaption. This marks the second comic book feature Prince-Bythewood has come aboard, following the news that she would direct the Spider-Man offshoot, Silver & Black for Sony.

The Old Guard is a fantasy story about old, immortal soldiers, led by Andromache of Scythia, aka Andy, that set out to offer their services to those willing to pay their fees. Of course, hiding a secret like immortality when you’re a mercenary is a difficult task, and sooner or later, the truth is bound to surface as fates far worse than death loom overhead. The project will take the place of Silver & Black on Prince-Bythewood’s schedule, as the female-led film is reportedly expected to hit theaters sometime next year.
As for Silver & Black, Prince-Bythewood is still attached to the project at this time. The script for that project is currently being rewritten by Captain Marvel screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and as Prince-Bythewood has previously stated, she has no intentions to proceed with production until she feels as though the script is “right.”

Along with having recently directed the pilot episode of Freeform’s Cloak & Dagger, Prince-Bythewood has built up an impressive film resume which includes the likes of Love & Basketball, The Secret Life of Bees, and Beyond The Lights. She also recently collaborated with her husband, Reggie Rock Bythewood, on the critically-acclaimed Shots Fired, in which she served as one of the show’s creators and executive producers.
The Old Guard is expected to hit theaters in 2019.
