Robin Hood Pulls Off a Heist, and Sparks a Revolt, in New Trailer
Jamie Foxx’s Little John trains Taron Egerton’s Robin of Loxley in the ways of the thief in the first full-length trailer for Lionsgate’s Robin Hood.
The new footage plays up director Otto Bathurst’s Batman Begins-like take on the legendary hero, as a former lord and Crusader is transformed into a noble bandit by his Moorish commander, all to lead a revolt against the corrupt English crown. The trailer also introduces a heist sequence that would feel right at home in any number of films, except this one has Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham, which gives it a leg up on the competition.
In development since 2015, when it was known as Robin Hood: Origins, the film is clearly an edgier take on the English legend, with modern sensibilities and flair. It’s also the second major Robin Hood reimagining in the past decade, following the 2010 Ridley Scott film starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett.
