REPORT: Zazie Beetz Boards Joaquin Phoenix Joker Film
Zazie Beetz was rumored last month to be in talks to board Todd Phillips’ yet-titled origin film centered around DC Comics villain the Joker. Now, a new report indicates the Beetz has accepted the role and will appear in the upcoming film.
The news comes out of ThatHashtagShow, which claims to have independently verified Beetz’s involvement in the movie. While her role has not yet been officially revealed, the outlet claims that Beetz will play Sophie Dumond, a woman who catches the interest of the Joker. Whether that ends up being Phillips’ big screen interpretation of Harley Quinn remains to be seen.

Beetz is perhaps best known for her role in Deadpool 2 as Domino, a mutant mercenary whose powers allow her to bend dangerous situations to her advantage. The character quickly became a fan-favorite, and Beetz has become an in-demand actor after the film raked in roughly $733 million internationally. Beetz is expected to reprise her role as Domino in the upcoming X-Force, which is penned by former Daredevil showrunner Drew Goddard.
Directed and co-written by Todd Phillips, the yet-titled Joker movie stars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character. It is scheduled to be released on Oct. 4, 2019.
