Kathy Griffin Pitches New Year's Eve Show With Stormy Daniels on 'Live!'

The comedian detailed her friendship with the adult film star, who she called Thelma to her Louise, in a raucous conversation with Jimmy Kimmel.

Kathy Griffin suggested a high-concept TV pairing on Thursday night when she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!: bring her back as an anchor for New Year's Eve, along with her new friend Stormy Daniels.

The comedian pitched the show after telling Kimmel a story about his "Aunt Chippy," who wrote Griffin a letter lamenting that she was not on CNN's 2017 New Year's Eve broadcast. This year, Griffin said, "I was thinking Kathy Griffin, Stormy Daniels, Live, New Year's Eve. Networks, call us?"

Kimmel then joked, "You know what would be a great spot to do that, Las Vegas at Aunt Chippy's."

CNN pulled Griffin from its 2017 New Year's Eve broadcast and replaced her with Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen after a picture of Griffin holding an effigy of a decapitated Donald Trump surfaced on the Internet and caused ginned up online outrage.

The pitch came on the show after Griffin detailed her friendship with Daniels (whose real name is Stephanie Clifford), the adult film star who shot to fame when the Wall Street Journal first reported that Trump lawyer Michael Cohen had paid her $130,000 to keep quiet about an alleged 2006 affair. Griffin said that the pair met when the performer came to one of Griffin's stand-up shows in New York. When Griffin brought her backstage, she said she greeted her by saying, "Hi Thelma, I'm Louise, let's take this sh-- down."

Griffin added that Daniels texted her after her arrest in Columbus, Ohio at a strip club on Wednesday night. Daniels, she said, sent her a picture on her way to donate her nights' tips to two other performers who were jailed alongside Daniels but not bailed out. On Thursday night, Daniels was set to perform in another location. "She's back on the poles," Griffin said.

During her appearance Griffin also addressed the decapitated-head-photo controversy that kept her touring internationally for much of 2017. Ironically, she told Kimmel, "The picture that was supposed to take me down was the thing that ended up allowing me to tour the world."

She added that, in the wake of the controversy, she performed her "Kathy Griffin: Laugh Your Head Off" act at Radio City Hall one night and Carnegie Hall the subsequent night which, to her knowledge, had never been done before.

Griffin also said that Kimmel had been "one of the few Hollywood people" to call her the day the controversy began and tell her everything would be all right.

Also in her appearance on Live! Griffin relentlessly mocked her mother, who was in the audience, for being invited by Gloria Estefan to a performance of her On Your Feet musical and taking pictures with stars in attendance, including Michael Bolton. Griffin said she was "triggered" by the appearance of her mother in the audience, and at one point shouted, "It's not about you, for once," at her. She also pulled a microphone from her mother's hand when a Live! crew member handed it to her to answer a question, which Griffin's mother didn't understand.
