Joker Set Photo Gives First Look at Zazie Beetz’s Character

New photos from the set of Todd Phillips’ Joker film not only offer yet another look at Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, the man destined to become the titular Clown Prince of Crime, but also provide our very first look at Zazie Beetz’s character, reportedly named Sophie Dumond.

These new set photos were acquired by Just Jared. And while Beetz and Phoenix are never actually featured together in the same picture, they do appear to be in the same location. How the two will interact in the scene, if at all, is currently unknown. In any case, these photos do a rather good job of showing how differently the two characters carry themselves.

Beetz, who recently made a big splash in the world of comic book films as as Neena Thurman/Domino in Deadpool 2, was first rumored to be boarding DC’s solo Joker film this past July. It was then reported that she had, in fact, accepted the role. Sophie Dumond, Beetz’s reported character, has since been described as being a cynical single mother, as well as Fleck’s love interest.

Additionally, Beetz has described herself as being a big fan of Phoenix’s and stated that it was an “honor” to be working alongside him on this new DC project.

Directed and co-written by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character along with Robert De Niro, Marc Maron, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen and Bill Camp. It is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2019.
