Joker Movie Casts Dark Knight Rises Actor As Thomas Wayne

Actor Brett Cullen, best known for his roles in Ghost Rider and The Dark Knight Rises, has been cast as Thomas Wayne in director Todd Phillips’ Joker film.

According to ComicBook.com, he will step into the role vacated by Alec Baldwin late last month, only a week after his casting was announced.

Cullen will play Wayne family patriarch, and Bruce Wayne’s father, Thomas Wayne, which reports suggest will deviate from the traditional comic book depictions. In Phillips’ film, Wayne will reportedly be portrayed as a 1980s businessman in the vein of Donald Trump rather than an altruistic physician.

Cullen, who played Barton Blaze in 2007’s Ghost Rider, and a congressman in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, joins a Joker cast that includes Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Marc Maron, Frances Conroy and Zazie Beetz.

A gritty drama that’s been compared to Raging Bull and Taxi Driver, Joker stars Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, a failed comedian who turns to crime in 1980s Gotham City.

Joker is set for release on Oct. 4, 2019. It’s expected to be the first release under a new Warner Bros. banner for DC films separate from the continuity of such so-called DC Extended Universe features as Justice League and Wonder Woman.
