James Gunn Horror Movie to Be Released in November By Sony

A few days before Comic-Con International in San Diego was in full swing, director James Gunn teased a movie announcement on Twitter. While the director didn’t mention what film he was talking about, he told his fans to pay attention to the Sony Pictures panel that was scheduled to unfold during the convention’s Saturday panel. With only a teaser image of a peculiar symbol, fans began to theorize about what the movie could be prior to the announcement.

However, before the panel, news broke that Disney had fired James Gunn from his position as writer/director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 following controversial tweets that had come back to light. Following that shocking news, Sony ultimately opted to cancel the Gunn announcement from their panel. And that was it — no further news from that mysterious project surfaced since. That is, until now.

According to Screen Rant, a schedule of Sony Pictures’ upcoming releases features an Untitled James Gunn Horror Movie slated for release on November 30. While there isn’t an official title or any revelation about what the film will be about, Sony has confirmed that, despite recent controversies, the movie will in fact be released this November.

The director’s name may be attached to the project, but it’s unclear if the Untitled Horror Movie was written, directed or simply produced by Gunn. It’s unlikely that the director had the time after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to film a secret movie that no one knew about. It’s possible that, like the 2016 horror film The Belko Experiment, Gunn wrote and produced the film. Fans have speculated that this project could be an adaption of the popular RPG horror video game Bloodborne, while others think that the film is based on Grant Morrison’s Image comic book series Nameless, which Gunn has expressed interest in in the past.

According to reports, James Gunn met with Disney executives to discuss the precarious situation surrounding his firing. While there have been calls for Gunn to be reinstated as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, from fans and Marvel actors alike, it appears as if Disney is sticking with its original call. However, it’s possible that the studio will still use Gunn’s Vol. 3 script. While no other announcements have been made about the director’s upcoming projects, rumor is that Gunn has many offers on his hands.
