Is Captain Marvel More Powerful Than Thor? Joe Russo Weighs In
12 minutes ago
For comic book fans, there's nothing more fun (or, depending on your friends, more frustrating) than engaging in spirited arguments about which superhero is the strongest, hottest, most useful, and so on. But regardless of your metrics or the quality of your argument, there will always be people who come to the discussion equipped with more knowledge, passion, and sass than you could possibly fathom. It's honestly super impressive.
Now, with the success of Marvel Studios pervading the globe, that argument now has more participants. Add to this the fact that Marvel is introducing new characters in every movie and you've got a discussion that will never end. That's honestly fine by me. Discussing superheroes is one of the only thing at which I excel (at least in my own head).
One of the more recent arguments that has people squabbling is one which concerns the power contrast between Captain Marvel and Thor. Who's stronger? Who has blasted through more alien ships? In Captain Marvel, the eponymous hero flies straight through an alien fleet before returning to Earth to give Jude Law a sound beating. But in Avengers: Infinity War, a Stormbreaker-wielding Thor essentially does the same thing. So who does it better?
Fortunately, a true expert on the characters, Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo, shared his thoughts in a segment included in the film's Digital HD release. Not only is the film phenomenal, but it also tells us how much Joe and Anthony Russo love and understand these characters.
It's interesting seeing the Avengers with Captain Marvel. I think that she dimensionalizes them in a really great way. Just from a pure power standpoint and what her abilities are. If you're talking about a collection of heroes, and you're gonna go face Thanos, who we believe still has the gauntlet. She is as powerful, if not more powerful than Thor, and you suddenly have hope again. Because they all know what happened at the end of the last movie, he walked through them like they were paper.
So there you have it. It probably won't change too many minds, but it's interesting to hear what the people behind the movie have to say about these characters. Joe and Anthony Russo have directed some of the MCU's best offerings, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and its sequel, Captain America: Civil War, being my personal favorites of the bunch.
What do you think about Joe Russo's comments? Is he correct or is he full of crap? Let us know in the comments section below and don't forget that Avengers: Endgame is now available digitally! The Blu-Ray, DVD, and 4K releases are set for August 13.
