Infinity War Survivors Will Be ‘Much, Much Harder’ in Avengers 4
Expect the finger snap felt round the world to leave a lasting impact with the surviving members of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the still untitled Avengers 4.
To promote the home release of Avengers: Infinity War, which officially hit DVD & Blu-ray yesterday, directors Joe and Anthony Russo recently sat down with Wired to talk about every hero in the film. While the duo offered up plenty of interesting tidbits regarding our favorite heroes, it was Joe Russo’s comments hinting at what’s to come that are the most interesting. Most noteworthy are his thoughts concerning Captain America and Black Widow, and how fans can expect a much more “hardened” take on the fan-favorite characters in the next Avengers film.

As Joe Russo highlighted the duo’s ability to grow the character of Black Widow over the course of three films — Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War — he talked about how Natasha is one of the “richest” characters to work with, and why they opted to bring Black Widow and Captain America together. “In Winter Soldier, what we found so compelling about pairing her up with Captain America was that he is this paragon of morality, and she is a paragon of gray,” he said. “But they’ve grown together, and I think when you find them in [Infinity War], they’ve been the Secret Avengers for two years… they’re like a tight-knit family now. Her, Sam Wilson, and Steve Rogers. It’s hardened all of them in a way.”
Of course, Falcon was one of the heroes to meet his demise following Thanos’ finger snap, leaving the Secret Avengers down one team member. So, what does this mean for Captain America and Black Widow going into Avengers 4? According to Russo, fans can expect to see them with a harder edge following the events of Infinity War. “I think all of those characters, specifically the ones who survived Infinity War — Cap and Natasha — we will see them with a much harder edge.”
