Eddie Murphy Returns to Theaters with Grumpy Old Men Remake
Eddie Murphy will return to comedy in New Line Cinema’s remake of Donald Petrie’s Grumpy Old Men. It will mark Murphy’s first comedic role since the 2012 bomb A Thousand Words.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the remake could potentially star Nick Fury himself Samuel L. Jackson opposite Murphy. Tim Story, who directed both of the mid-2000s Fantastic Four films, will helm the film.
The original Grumpy Old Men was released in 1993. It starred Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau in the title roles, with Ann-Margret as the female lead. The two old men have a chronic case of bad blood between them, and Ann-Margret’s arrival to their neighborhood doesn’t help matters.

Though not anything close to a beloved classic, Grumpy Old Men makes an interesting choice for a remake. It thrived on the chemistry between its leads, so the casting for whoever stars across from Murphy will be very important. Though the report claims Jackson is a contender for the film, Murphy’s co-star has not yet been announced.
Murphy can be seen next as a performer-turned-pimp in this fall’s Dolemite is My Name from director Craig Brewer.
