Deathstroke Film Still ‘in the Works,’ Assures Joe Manganiello

Actor Joe Manganiello has once more assured that Warner Bros.’ planned Deathstroke movie will indeed come to fruition.

Following his appearance as the fan-favorite DC mercenary in the Justice League post-credits scene and reports the studio is eyeing more films based around villains, Manganiello has repeatedly said his solo film is still in the cards. Appearing over the weekend at Comic-Con International in San Diego, the actor confirmed that remains the case.

“I just say ‘it’s in the works’ because it is. and I — really, there’s nothing further,” he told MTV. “All I can say is, for the hardcore fans, it’s — it’s in the works. They want it they want the character to happen, it’s just when he happens. They [want to do it the right way]. Everyone’s committed to that.”

While director Gareth Evans (The Raid) may not be heading into production for some time due to scheduling conflicts, Manganiello remains optimistic about the character he wrote a 16-page backstory for to fit into DC’s cinematic universe, for when he was poised to be the villain in The Batman. However, when Matt Reeves came aboard as director, that script was discarded, leaving Ben Affleck’s future as the Dark Knight, as well as Manganiello’s trajectory as Deathstroke, up in the air.
