David Schwimmer to Executive Produce BBC Adaptation of 'Love' Play
The 'Friends' star is working with 'McMafia' producer Cuba Pictures and the U.K.'s National Theatre on the TV film by director Alexander Zeldin.
Friends star David Schwimmer is to executive produce the TV adaptation of a British stage play, Love, for BBC Two.
Schwimmer will be working with the National Theatre, BBC Films and McMafia producer Cuba Pictures to produce the TV film. The cast for the production now shooting in London is led by Nick Holder, Anna Calder-Marshall, Luke Clarke and Janet Etuk, as each reprises the roles they originated on stage at the National Theatre.
Alexander Zeldin will write and direct the Love adaptation, which tells the story of families brought together and placed in temporary accommodation in the run-up to Christmas. Among them is Colin (Holder), a middle-aged man, and his elderly mother, Barbara, relocated from their previous housing, and a young couple, Dean and Emma, preparing to welcome a new child into their family.
Love is based on the play of the same name that opened at the National Theatre in December 2016. "We have been massive fans of Alexander’s incredible theater work for many years and are delighted to be working with him on his first film. Love was an extraordinary play and we are so pleased a wider audience will be able to see it," executive producers Dixie Linder and Nick Marston of Cuba Pictures said in a statement.
Love is produced by Cuba Pictures and is a co-production with the National Theatre for BBC Arts, BBC Films and Arts Council England. Caroline Lawrence is producing, and the executive producers are Linder and Marston for Cuba Pictures, Schwimmer, Rufus Norris for the National Theater, Emma Cahusac for BBC Arts and Polly Stokes for BBC Films.
The film will be shown on BBC Two in late autumn 2018.
