At its most basic, Rick and Morty is a highly dysfunctional family sitcom viewed through the prism of Back to the Future and the twisted humor of creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland. (Along with tons of other sci-fi wonder.) And so how amazing would it be for one Rick Sanchez to share the screen in Season 4 with a character voiced by Doc Brown himself, Christopher Lloyd? Answer: it would be very amazing. And it could feasibly happen, too, as Lloyd himself is actually a casual Rick and Morty fan and would be down to appear.

I don't follow it closely, but I've seen a few episodes and I gotta tell you, I think it's a lot of fun. I know it's some kind of parody of Doc and Marty. . . . I'd like to [guest star] of course. I think it's really fun.

The urge to flux-capacitate all over oneself is probably pretty strong right now, since Christopher Lloyd making a cameo on Rick and Morty would be a masterful pop culture quasi-mash-up. Back to the Future will forever be one of the most revered sci-fi franchises, with Lloyd's Doc Brown and Michael J. Fox's Marty McFly as iconic a big screen duo as they get. And though Rick and Morty isn't the most clear-cut parody of BTTF, with many of its bizarre problems having nothing to do with time travel, it would make so much sci-fi sense for Lloyd to grace the Adult Swim hit with his presence for some ass-melting insanity.

And while there are technically thousands, if not millions, of characters for Christopher Lloyd to play for any future Rick and Morty guest spots, only one of them counts as the best idea of all. Lloyd should obviously play Rick's father, which would make him Morty's great-grandfather. And when that particular option was brought up by the Phoenix Sun Times, the Emmy-winning actor sounded more than game.

[Chuckles] Yeah, yeah. That'd be fun.

I mean, he's not exactly beating down Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland's doors down to force them to consider penning an even more eldest Sanchez family member, but sometimes all it takes for magic to happen in Hollywood is a few positive words. Lloyd currently doesn't have any other TV shows pining for his attention, with his most recent pilot getting passed on at NBC, though he did make appearances this year on both Roseanne and 12 Monkeys, and he'll soon be seen in the star-studded feature drama Boundaries. So that should leave him open to do, say, 70 episodes of Rick and Morty, right? Okay, maybe not that many, but just like 65 or so. Get schwifty with it, Christopher Lloyd!

Will we ever see Christopher Lloyd on Rick and Morty, carrying on a conversation with Mr. Poopybutthole's father, or silently judging Jerry for...being Jerry? Let's put our collective voices together to make sure it happens, shall we? And while waiting to hear more about it, head to our summer premiere schedule. And that's the wayyy the news goes!
