Christina Applegate to Star in Netflix Comedy Series ‘Dead To Me’ From Will Ferrell and Adam McKay
The 'Bad Moms' actress will play a woman with a dark sense of humor and an anger problem in the 10-episode streaming series.
Christina Applegate is returning to television.
The actress will star in Dead to Me, a new Netflix dark comedy series from executive producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. The casting marks Applegate's first substantial TV role in six years. Although she's been highly sought after for broadcast, cable and streaming projects in recent years, she's often passed on such TV offers.
Written by Liz Feldman, the 10-episode half-hour series will center on a powerful friendship that blossoms between a tightly wound widow, Jen (Applegate), and a free spirit with a shocking secret. As Jen, Applegate will play a poised and put together woman with a dark sense of humor and an anger problem that she doesn't necessarily want to deal with. She's been struggling to keep it together in the months since her husband was killed in a hit and run.
The show will be produced by CBS Television Studios and Ferrell and McKay's Gloria Sanchez Productions for the streamer. Feldman will serve as the showrunner and will executive producer the series alongside Ferrell, McKay, Applegate and Jessica Elbaum. Filming on Dead To Me is set to begin this fall in Los Angeles.
The show, of course, reunites Applegate with Ferrell and McKay after she starred in the pair's Anchorman films. Applegate recently graced the big screen with her holiday-themed Bad Moms sequel, Bad Moms Christmas. She's repped by CAA, Management 360 and Hansen Jacobson.
Deadline first reported the news of Applegate's casting.
