Kirby has been picking up attention for her role in Mission: Impossible – Fallout as the villainous White Widow, a dangerous arms dealer that comes afoul of Ethan Hunt and his team. Margot Robbie has been drumming up excitement for the upcoming DC film, with the actress describing the movie as a girl gang film. While none of the other main characters have been cast, rumors have been circulating about the potential stars of the film. Kirby’s newly cemented action movie chops helped her standing in those talks online, with a strong campaign on Twitter pushing for the actress to receive the role.

Following the success of the newest Mission: Impossible, she’s being considered a favorite by the internet to fill the part. There are even rumors that Margot Robbie agrees, with Kirby reportedly appearing on the star’s personal shortlist for the film. Jodie Comer of Killing Eve has also been reportedly eyed as a possibility for the role.

There are also suggestions that Alexandra Daddario (Baywatch) is being considered for the part of Huntress. Other characters possibly slated to appear in the film include Barbara Gordon (as Oracle), Cassandra Cain and Renee Montoya.

First introduced in the 1990s, the Birds of Prey began as a team-up between Black Canary and Oracle. The group expanded its numbers over the years, with other DC heroines such as Huntress, Hawkgirl, Manhunter, Misfit, Power Girl, Catwoman, Katana, Poison Ivy and Black Alice joining the roster.

Birds of Prey will be directed by Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) and written by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee). Margot Robbie has been confirmed to be returning as Harley Quinn, and production is expected to begin in early 2019.
